Bringing September back.

Where the hell did the summer go? We’re sat here in our bright and cheery (synthetically lit) office and we can’t believe that 2012 is on our doorstep already. Soon it’ll be the Olympic games and then we’ll be complaining about another English Summer that fizzled out too soon.

Hold up.

There’s still FOUR MONTHS of this badboy 2011 left. That’s Halloween in October, Fireworks in November and eating more Christmas Turkey than you can physically handle in December. Not bad, actually. Except September usually passes by like a wet fart, right?

Chicken re-run!

After having so much fun last year with Norfolk Brahmas, we were asked back again this year to take some more chicken portraits!

This time around we went for a blue graduated backdrop for a little more colour, sticking with the classic Fancy Fowl show look, to capture some of the birds personality with it.

Here’s one of our favourites from the session.

The illusive Red Pandelope

Relative of the North American Jackalope, The Red Pandelope is native to Nepal.

It would appear that one of the rare Red Padelope snuck into the luggage of a recently returning BBC film crew (who had been in Butan and Nepal looking for Tigers ) and ended up at Lion Works Studios when we hired in some of this equipment.

Initally shy, the Pandelope eventually warmed to the camera, ate several radishes and fell asleep in a bed of shredded “Cats!” and “Lion King” (musical) programmes.

Chick-chick-chick-chick-Chicken… lay a little egg for me.

We like to keep things fresh at Lion Works Studios, so we’ve been very lucky to have had a run of shoots over the past few weeks that took us on new photographic adventures.

We traveled up to Norfolk to undertake a series of Chicken Portraits for chicken breeder Norfolk Bramhas.

It turns out that shooting Chicken portraits isn’t far off shooting People portraits; some of them are instant stars who warm to the camera quicky and require little direction. Others need a guardian on hand to make sure that they don’t wreck the set or strop off in a huff.

The aim of the shoot was to go for a classic Fancy Fowl show shot, but to capture some of the birds personality with it. It wasn’t so much about making sure the bird was standing to show off the length of it’s feathers or shape of it’s beak, as it was about taking a snap with character.

Here’s a few of our favourites.

The shoot took place outside in a sheltered corner of the yard and we used a Colourama Colourgrad PVC background (poop-wipeable).
